Paisajes Geográficos de la Mente / Geographical Landscapes of the Mind is an ongoing series of works made with tufted and hand-punched acrylic and cotton yarn on monk cloth.
Visually, the pieces resemble abstract Polaroid snapshots in a variety of colors, evoking the look of photographs taken on damaged film—complete with abstract patterns, visual distortions, discoloration, and imperfect development effects.
Each work captures a moment from a six-month period in 2024, a time when depression deeply affected me. During those months, I often found myself writing down recurring thoughts that kept me awake until they were put into words. Each color and pattern corresponds to a specific thought from those writings. Loose, hanging strands are intentionally incorporated to suggest how some of these feelings don’t remain in the past, but instead linger and continue into the present.
